What is alignment pin?
Alignment pins serve a variety of functions with jigs and fixtures. Most commonly, these devices align the workpiece to the workholder, or position removable workholder elements. Alignment pins come in many types, styles, and sizes for many applications.
How do I install tracking pins?
Locating pins are a great way to make sure the parts you are putting together fit the way you want them to fit. Drill two holes opposite each other in each part, install a cylindrical locating pin, and presto! Your parts are aligned exactly the way you want.

Are dowel pins hardened through?
Due to the high hardness design of the pin’s surface, a dowel should be pressed into a reamed hole with a hammer made of softer material, rather than hammered or driven. This prevents the pin from shattering and causing injury.
