What is a pseudo lymphoma?
Pseudolymphoma, also called as cutaneous lymphoid hyperplasia, is a skin lesion having lymphomatous appearance mimicking lymphoma that results from known or unknown stimulus like insect bites, vaccination, trauma, folliculitis, drugs, jewelry, and contactants.
Can Pseudolymphoma turn into lymphoma?
Although rare, reports of cutaneous B-cell pseudolymphoma evolving into B-cell lymphoma have been described. In one study of 4 cases, transformation of 1 case of pseudolymphoma into a large B-cell lymphoma was identified, similar to our patient [7].
What does Pseudolymphoma look like?
Pseudolymphomatous drug eruption due to captopril, marked by erythematous to purple papules, patches, and plaques. This erythrodermic pseudolymphoma (T-cell pattern) typifies drug-induced pseudolymphoma, which is most often secondary to anticonvulsant therapy.
Is Pseudolymphoma curable?
Cases of cutaneous pseudolymphoma documented to occur as a result of infection should be appropriately treated. In idiopathic cases of cutaneous pseudolymphoma, treatment is not mandatory. Cures may be effected via surgical removal, cryosurgery, or local irradiation.
What is Lymphocytoma?
Lymphocytoma cutis, or benign reactive lymphoid hyperplasia, is an inflammatory skin lesion that mimics clinically and histologically malignant lymphoma. Most cases are idiopathic, but they may also be triggered by multiple factors, such as insect bites, tattoos, injections and herpes zoster.
What is benign lymphoma?
Benign lymphoma, also referred to as a pseudolymphoma or as a benign lymphoid hyperplasia (BLH), is a rare non-cancerous (benign) tumor made up of lymphocytes. Lymphocyes or white blood cells are part of the body’s immune system and help defend our body against infection.
Is pseudolymphoma itchy?
Patients with B-cell pattern pseudolymphoma present with a nodule or a group of discrete nodules, usually with minimal associated symptoms. Occasionally, patients present with pruritus or pain.
What drugs cause pseudolymphoma?
Anticonvulsants, typically phenytoin and carbamazepine, are the most frequent cause of drug-induced pseudolymphoma.
Which drugs cause pseudolymphoma?
What drugs cause Pseudolymphoma?
What causes Pseudolymphoma?
Pseudolymphoma is characterized by dense lymphoid infiltrates of the skin, which may be focal or diffuse. Triggers include insect bites or stings, which cause local reactions, or anticonvulsant drugs, which can cause widespread eruptions.
What is T cell hyperplasia?
Paracortical hyperplasia is the preferential stimulation of the T cell compartment. It is caused by an abnormal expansion of the interfollicular zones but is confined within the lymph node capsule. The population of the compartment is cytologically polymorphous.
How is the diagnosis of pseudolymphoma made?
The diagnosis of pseudolymphoma is made by both a combination of the clinical features and careful histological analysis. Often the diagnosis can be confirmed only by observing the behaviour of the condition over time.
When to discontinue a drug for pseudolymphoma?
Patients with presumed pseudolymphoma in whom the possibility of lymphoma cannot be excluded should be evaluated for the possibility of concurrent extracutaneous disease and followed for possible emergence of lymphoma. When the diagnosis of pseudolymphoma is suspected, all implicated drugs should be discontinued.
Which is the best treatment for pseudolymphoma skin cancer?
The Medscape Skin Cancer Resource Center may be of interest. In cutaneous pseudolymphoma, simple excision of the involved site can be curative in some cases. Cryosurgery may be effective in some cases of lymphocytoma cutis. Lesions that interfere with function or are cosmetically undesirable may be surgically removed.
What kind of pseudotumour can be used for lymphocytoma?
Syphilis (secondary). Jessner’s lymphocytic infiltrate can simulate chronic lymphocytic leukaemia, B cell type. Inflammatory pseudotumour can simulate plasmacytoma and marginal zone B-cell lymphoma. The original description applied only to lymphocytoma cutis.
