What are the requirements for NYLT?

  • Complete their home Unit’s Introduction to Leadership Skills course*
  • Receive approval from your Scoutmaster or Unit leader.
  • Be at least 13 years of age by course start date.
  • Earn First Class rank, if registered in a Troop.
  • Have current BSA Health Form (Parts A, B, and C)

What is Iols training?

The Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) course builds and expands on the concepts and themes introduced in Scoutmaster Position-Specific Training and Varsity Coach Position-Specific Training, and provides Scouters with the confidence to take youth into the outdoors.

How old do you have to be for NYLT?

The minimum age requirement to attend NYLT will change. All participants must be 14 years old or 13 years old and have completed 8th grade; there cannot be any exceptions.

What do you do at NYLT?

The National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is a 6-day long program where scouts learn leadership, communication, planning, problem-solving, teamwork, and also participate in fun outdoor challenges.

How do I get to the NYLT?

In order to attend a NYLT course, a youth must have the following qualifications by the beginning of the course:

  1. Must be a registered member of a Scouting unit.
  2. Must have a current BSA Health and Medical Record form parts A, B, and C.
  3. As of March 1, 2019, Scouts BSA members (male and female) must be at least 13.

Does Iols expire?

IOLs have been around since the late 1940s and were the first devices to be implanted in the body. Unlike natural lenses, IOLs do not break down over a person’s lifetime and do not need to be replaced.

Where does the NYLT patch go on the uniform?

National Youth Leadership Training is a week-long youth leadership training course for members of Scouts BSA and Venturing. Patch is worn on the right front pocket of the Scouts BSA or Venturing uniforms.

Is NYLT overnight?

The five and a half day schedule of NYLT is very full, from early morning until bed time each night. There are no scheduled times for parental visits.
